About This Hands-On Lab
Note: This is a companion lab for Clinic 6402A - First Look: Getting Started with Branch Office Management in Windows Server 2008.
This one and one-half–hour lab provides hands-on experience with the following Windows Server 2008 Branch Office functionality: Branch Office Server Deployment and Administration, Branch Office Security.
Audience Profile
IT professionals currently experienced on the technologies included in Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and/or Windows Server 2003, and who hold an MCSE or MCSA certification and/or equivalent knowledge.
At Hands-On Lab Completion
After completing this lab, you will be able to:
- Implement a Read-Only Domain Controller
- Work with restartable Microsoft Active Directory
- Implement DFS replication and a read-only DFS at the branch
Hands-On Lab Outline
Exercise 1: Deploying a Read-Only Domain Controller
After completing this module, students will be able to:
- Run ADPrep on NYC-DC-01 to prepare the domain for RODC installation.
- Install RODC in a Branch Office site.
- Review RODC Allowed and Denied groups.
- Create a new Active Directory group and add to Allow group.
- View and Add cached credentials to a RODC.
- Verify the Cached Credential Functions in the event of WAN failure.
- Configure Administrator Role Separation for a RODC.
- Reset all cache credentials on the RODC.
Exercise 2: Using Restartable Active Directory
After completing this module, students will be able to:
- Review the state of Active Directory Domain Services.
- Stop the Active Directory Domain Services and perform an offline defragmentation of the Directory Database.
Exercise 3: Implementing DFS in a Branch Office
After completing this module, students will be able to:
- Install DFS components.
- Configure the DFS Namespace.
- Delegate management permissions.
- Add folders to the Namespace.
- Implement Intelligent Replication.
- Share and publish replicated folders in a Namespace.
- Force Active Directory Replication and connect to DFS
