About this Course

This one day instructor-ledcourse provides the functional application consultant insight on the technical environment of the RoleTailored Client of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009. The basic technical knowledge provided in this training will enforce the analysis activities of the functional consultant, and thus make substantiated time and cost budgets.This training will teach the basics of Page and Report Design in NAV 2009. It covers the new options with practical examples on creating and making modifications to Pages, Role Centers, Navigation Panes and Reports in the Role Tailored Client.The installation of the demo option for Dynamics NAV 2009 and the installation and configuration of a service tier is also covered in this training.Finally it will provide the consultant with an overview of the possibilities of webservices and extensibility plugins for the Role Tailored Client.

Audience Profile

This course is intended for both novice and experienced functional consultants who have already some experience with customizing the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Classical Client and wish to upgrade this knowledge to the Role Tailored Client.

Course Outline

Module 1: Introduction to NAV 2009

This chapter will introduce Dynamics NAV 2009. It will explain the new architecture of the Role Tailored Client.

  • Resize columns.
  • Change the contents of drop-down menus.
  • Customize the navigation pane.
  • Add or rem FactBoxes.

Module 2: Installation and Configuration

This chapter will explain how to install a demo version of Dynamics NAV 2009 on your machine. It also explains the possibilities and available Dynamics NAV and SQL Server tools to create and restore a backup of a database on your local machine. The installation and configuration of a Service Tier is also covered in this chapter.

Module 3: Design Pages and Reports for the Role Tailored Client

This chapter explains to Application Consultants the fundamental concepts of page objects and describes how to use the Page Designer to create and modify pages and the Action Designer to add actions and position them. Furthermore, it describes the methods for creating RDLC report layouts and how to add data, subtotals and totals to a report. It illustrates the differences (in report structure, report creation, report execution and dataset generation) between Classic and RoleTailored client. The creation and usage of charts and chart parts in the Role Tailored client is also covered in this chapter.Navigation in the Role Tailored Client, the creation and modification of the menusuite and departments section is explained in detail in this chapter.

  • To make a report available in the RoleTailored client

Module 4: Web services and extensibility plugins in the Role Tailored Client: an overview of the possibilities

This chapter will introduce and give an overview of the possibilities and integration of Dynamics NAV 2009 with web services and the usage of extensibility plugins.
